IT’S BATMAN DAY!!!
Excuse me, but how is today any different from any other day of the year? ;-) I have nothing planned, how shall I celebrate?!
Oh I know! I’m gonna watch - and share with you - my #1 Batman fan film:
Bat in the Sun's City of Scars from 2010.
On July 4th, Joker breaks out of Arkham Asylum and takes a councilman’s family hostage. Will Batman find the Clown Prince of Crime before yet another child has to face a tragedy Bruce Wayne had to endure?
Unfortunately, I don’t even remember how I happened to stumble upon these 30 minutes of awesomeness but I’m very thankful that I did. This masterpiece by Aaron and Sean Schoenke was what triggered my love for their production team and further superhero projects, and introduced me to the amazing actor Kevin Porter who will always be my personal Batman straight out of the comic books. He’s got the voice, he’s got the looks, he’s got the intensity, darkness, and integrity. Finally a Batman who can strike fear into the hearts of criminals simply by silently standing in front of them! And whose body offers an answer to anyone wondering why superheroes wear spandex.
Did I mention he’s got the voice and the looks? The first time I watched CoS and a Conroy-esque narration reached my ears, I was quite intrigued - but when that huge guy in that cool costume appeared on screen, my eyes bulged out and my jaw went skydiving. The only remaining thought was where did they find him?!
So strap in for a story-driven Batman film featuring detective work, inner struggles, cameos by known characters, gorgeous music, and a Joker who will make you question yourselves if you want to pee your pants with laughter… or fear. Paul Molnar has a ball playing a hilarious murderous psychopath; it’s a delight watching him act.
Enjoy City of Scars!
